Tips for Creating a Winning Entry
Here are some suggestions to help you make sure your entry meets the Surface Fabrication Achievement in Design Contest requirements and improve your chances of winning.
1. Provide complete information
Make sure you submit all your necessary materials before their due date and your forms are all completely filled out. This includes your: Application to Complete form, $25 non-refundable Entry Fee, Onsite Signage form, Signed release forms and Photo or Entry. The Onsite Signage Form is particularly important, as this is used heavily by the judges and also by Surface Fabrication magazine for it’s article(s) on the contest. Providing as much information as possible will help you immensely. Also, double check that your entry has been entered under the proper competition category.
2. Think like a judge
The Surface Fabrication Achievement in Design Contest judges review many entries, so make it easy for them by keeping descriptions brief and to the point. Focus on the best points in your project. Type or clearly print all information. Please note: Your name and company will be hidden during judging to ensure that the judges remain impartial in making their decisions.
3. If submitting a photo of your entry, use professional quality photos
If you are submitting your entry in the Large Applications class you must provide a professional quality digital photo. Professional quality digital photos of the finished project improves an entry's chances of winning (color prints or photocopies are not acceptable). Before you hire a professional photographer make sure he or she understands that the photos are used in a professional competition and that a signed photographer release is mandatory for all entries (even if you took the photos yourself).
4. Have your entry proofread
Before sending in your entry, make sure all forms and information is complete and all releases are signed and dated. Have someone proofread your entry critically - like a judge would.
